Bali Naturewalks
We met Rai initially as a friend in need. He picked us up on a rainy day when our plans were drowning. He gave us the most amazing day and I got so inspired by him I had to write down his story!
About Rai Dewa
Born and raised in a family of 5 in a village not far from Ubud. Together with his wife Desak Tri Wahyuni and his 2 children he still lives in his birth village. He also takes care of his 2 nieces. He grew up in a farmers family and learned everything there is to it, to be a farmer. As a young kid he was cutting grass for his cows on the way to school and although he was brought up to be a farmer he still went to college.
He was a bright student and finished the international school of law and buisiness. Next to working in this area he also has a family buisiness.
” Bali Naturewalks” consists of Rai and his older brother Putra. Together they do tour guides around Bali. He is a true nature lover and he knows a great deal about plants and herbs and their medicinal powers!
Why Rai Derwa is the best tour guide?
We got to learn a lot from him about how farming on the rice fields was done back in the days. He also showed us a lot of different plants and fruits such as cacao, dragon fruit, guafa, ..
He taught us how the famous most expensive coffee in the world “coffee luwak” is made.
We got to visit the most beautiful tempels together and he learned us a lot about Balinese beliefs and religion! He made us understand their culture and we got to know so much about their traditions and ways!
Rai is so passionate, genuine and real, and his enthusiasm is so contagious! He really wants you to get to know the Balinese ways and he is eager to share all his knowledge. As a guide he is respectful and patient and he really tries his best to take you wherever you want to go. I would definitely recommend Rai and his family for anyone who goes to Bali because when you meet Rai you do not only get to meet the best tour guide but you will also have a new true friend!!
Welcome to my Paradise
I still smile when I think of the endless hours of driving where ”Welcome to my paradise” (an extremely happy, feel good song) was jamming repeatedly through the radio because it was more or less the only working song on his cd!
He took such good care of us, we always felt safe! When he notices you are not smiling or feeling great he will do everything in his power to make you happy our comfortable!
On one of our days together, Benny was having a really bad stomach ache! Rai noticed he was feeling sick so he immediately bought us the fruit ‘Guava’ wich is really good for that problem and actually works medicinal!
We also got to meet Rai’s family and that was incredibly nice. We all went to dinner together. It was so great to meet his children and his wife! We were so greatful for really being able to induldge with locals and it was a super cozy evening! He is a real family man and he would do anything for them. But when you are his guests, he will treat you like family too!
I honestly believe he is going to make a great buisiness because he is such a good guide! Highly recommended as you would want to go explore Bali, but most of all so so happy to have met this beautiful soul!
Thank you Rai!
I totally agree with you ! I met Rai in 2014. He gave me a quick tour of the rice fields (I only had a couple of hours) and i found him to be very passionate, very patient and dedicated. Best tour guide. I highly recommend him ! Unfortunately, i didn’t have the chance to meet his family, hopefully, i’ll meet them next time.
Thank you for your kind comment Sonia Guilemette! I am glad to see other people share this experience and for the ones who haven’t met him yet.. they can search for him when visiting Bali!
I am sure when you re-visit he’ll be glad to let you meet his family!

I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s equally educative and entertaining, and let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy that I came across this during my search
for something concerning this.
