Exclusive getaway: sleep in a former Signal Station

Located just outside of  the industrial harbour of IJmuiden lies a former signal station. This exclusive getaway  found it’s second life being turned into an extraordinary Bed & Breakfast!

A redundant Signal station with a new destination

Back in the days (16th Century) the signal station alongside the little red lighthouse played an important role communicating between sea and land. Warning for possible attacks from sea or used for ships navigating into the harbor. Due to our modern technology it is now out of use.

Bob Schol and Melissa Strijker succesfully gave the redundant Signal station a wonderful new destination!
Next to some former and remote fishermen houses on one side and the red lighthouse on the other, you will find this perfect getaway…

Nowadays it is turned in to the most cosy and romantic accommodation! It is a breathtakingly beautiful and inspiring place. The colourful and cheerful interior alongside the astonishing view over the canal! It leads from the North Sea into IJmuiden and onto the entrance of the Amsterdam harbour.
It is a perfect combination of peace and serenity from the sea and the hustle and bustle from the harbor.

Bites, drinks and to do’s in IJmuiden Harbor

We had a lovely lunch, being kiblings on the beach during our walk. Although for really good seafood I would definitely recommend restaurant ‘de IJmond” wich is around a 150 meter walk from the signal station.

Plenty activities to keep you busy. We enjoyed a walk to the local beach, a stroll on the piers and a historical hike into Ijmuiden’s beautiful sand dunes and it’s remote war bunkers.
If you have enough of the sea breeze, the Sign post itself is such an inspiring place! You can just chill out, read a book, be creative or just enjoy the quiet and epic view over the canal while countless fishing boats, ships and occasionally a gigantic Cargo ship pass.

As the sun sets, all of the lights make the view even more beautiful! I imagine maybe in summertime this is a great place. Although even now, being cold, foggy and with some stormy wheather rolling in it was extra special! We enjoyed the industrial, creative atmosphere. We just had the perfect secret escape!
